Blood Immunological Parameters upon Hypoxic-ischemic Injuries of Central Nervous System in Newborns and Infants

چکیده
The paper studies interrelation between immune system condition and circulating concentrations of neuropeptides and neuronspecific enolase (NSE) upon perinatal pathology in newborns and infants. Reactivity of cytokine and interleukin links of immune systems was found varying in newborns and infants with CNS hypoxic-ischemic pathology, accompanied by psychomotor retardation, a psycho-speech disorder, emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) and paroxysmal syndrome. At admission irrespectively of a syndrome type in the patients with CNS hypoxic-ischemic pathology, as compared with the patients in the control group, circulating TNF-α and IL-1 were found increased by 3.4-4.1 and 6.4-7.9 times, respectively. Release of S100 protein and NSE seems to be the underlying mechanism for enhancement of synthesis and/or release of TNF-α and IL-1 into circulation of patients with CNS hypoxic-ischemic pathology. Association between serum interleukin-1β levels and perinatal asphyxia
Objective: Asphyxia is a major cause of acute mortality and chronic neurologic disability in neonates. We sought to define the predictive values of serum concentrations of interleukin-1β in newborns with perinatal asphyxia to see if there is a relation between interleukin-1β (IL-1β) levels to the short term neurological deficit. Methods: This was a prospective (case-co...
متن کاملStudy of Neurodevelopmental Outcomes at 10-14 Months of Age Using Bayley Scale of Infant and Toddler Development in Asphyxiated Newborns with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy Treated with and without Therapeutic Hypothermia
Background: Therapeutic hypothermia has become an established protocol for all neonates with moderate to severe Hypoxic Ischaemic Encephalopathy (HIE). There are very few studies comparing the neurodevelopmental outcomes in asphyxiated neonates who received therapeutic hypothermia or did not. This study aimed to assess the neurodevelopmental outcomes of asphyxiated neonates with features of HIE...
متن کامل[Assessment of retrocochlear hearing pathway activity in infants with central nervous system impairment occurring as an effect of perinatal asphyxia].
INTRODUCTION The most often changes in the central nervous system (CNS) occurring as an effect of perinatal asphyxia are found to be hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) in term newborns, peri- (PVH) or intraventricular hemorrhages (IVH) and periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) in preterm neonates. Chronic hypoxia is considered to affect the brainstem in infants, especially nuclei of the hearing...
متن کاملNeonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Brain Injury: Mechanisms and Strategies for prevention and
Most infants affected by hypoxic-ischemic (H-I) brain injury do not require surgical intervention. However, some of these infants as well as infants with certain congenital anomalies that place them at risk for H-I brain injury will present for surgical intervention. The incidence of H-I injury is estimated to be between 1 and 6 per 1000 live term newborns (Ferriero, 2004). Neonatal hypoxic-isc...
متن کاملPerinatal acidosis and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy in preterm infants of 33 to 35 weeks' gestation.
OBJECTIVES To determine the frequency of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) in preterm infants of 33 to 35 weeks' gestational age on the basis of physiological screening for perinatal acidosis and neurological assessment of encephalopathy and to correlate neurodevelopmental outcomes with brain magnetic resonance imaging findings. STUDY DESIGN This retrospective cohort study included all in...
